Oh What a Feeling… 15% Wage Increase for ECEC!
By Five are absolutely THRILLED with the Albanese Government's announcement that Early Childhood Educators will receive a well-deserved pay rise. This is not only a win for hardworking professionals and industry, but for families and communities that rely on their services.
By Five, along with many others in the advocacy space, have been working to advocate for a range of improvements, one of which being improved pay and conditions to protect an industry impacted by staff shortages. It highlights the value of these early years educators in the fundamental years of children’s lives. Early Years Educators are among the lowest-paid professionals in Australia, despite performing a skilled job that requires further study and training. The importance of the early years is well evidenced, laying important foundations for life. High-quality Early Childhood Education is a critical element in supporting this development and education and can set children up to thrive.
Educators are invaluable to our communities! Their expertise allows families to work or perform other duties, ensuring that we all have access to the people who keep our communities operating including; retail workers, teachers, hairdressers, health professionals, construction, hospitality staff - you name it!
This pay rise is a significant step in the right direction to ensure a supported and sustainable system, as the government begins to recognise and invest in the early years. Let's celebrate this fantastic news and continue to support our incredible ECEC champions!
“It has been a wonderful step in the right direction. It just fills me with pride, that one of our most important professions in our community are finally getting the recognition they deserve for the work they do!” ~ Jo Martin, By Five Executive Officer
